Dorothy Gale

Adopted

Update 3/24/2023 Dorothy Gale has been adopted by her foster family.

In April of 2021 Dorothy Gale, a petite five-year-old weighing about 70 pounds was found as a stray and taken to a Kansas shelter. She was named Dorothy Gale after the classic adventurer in the Oz novels. Upon intake she had severe hair loss due to demodex mange. Her skin was painful when touched. Dorothy Gale had cancerous masses on her ovaries that were removed. Subsequent exams with imaging show no further signs of growth anywhere, however it is recommended to have her re-screened every six months. Dorothy Gale had healed physically and was moved to a foster to adopted home.  The foster to adopt family lived in the city and had a very active household.  Dorothy Gale was not able to adapt to the many changes and was returned to her original foster home.

In February of 2023 Dorothy Gale had a lumpectomy to remove a small knot on her side. It was squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer) but the vet believes he had good margins and will just need to watch for changes. Dorothy Gale has been having knee problems, the pain medicine she is taking does not seem to help. She received a prescription and was measured for a knee brace.

All of our rescues are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro chipped before being placed. Completed application and reference/home check required. We do NOT ship or fly rescues as it’s too stressful on them. For additional info on any of the dogs in this region, please email Pam@ddbrescue.org
