Beetle
Fospice
- AGE: senior
- GENDER: male
- LOCATION: Connecticut
Update 4/27/2023
The mass on Beetles heart is now causing him to become unconscious and collapse. He has had two episodes recently. We are working with his vet and a heart specialist to create a care plan, but with his age and other heath issues it will most likely be hospice.
Beetle has responded so well to all the care in his foster home that he is ready to be adopted!
He got the clearance from the vet and he is ready for his forever home. He had extensive bloodwork which included, heartworm test, tick panel and thyroid – all came back normal. He had x-rays done on elbows, hips, chest and abdomen. His hips are not great but that does not slow him down. He has a mass in his heart called chemodectoma. It’s probably been there for years, not causing a problem now, no meds needed, doesn’t need to be rechecked anytime soon. ECG was normal and usually that’s not the case with heart disease. Beetle is a healthy stable senior. He will need to stay on a few supplements such as Dasuquin Advanced, a fish oil supplement and carprofen. Genetic carprofen is inexpensive.
Beetle needs rules and will take advantage of the situation if you do not provide him with that. Beetle responds very well to corrections. He is quick to learn what is acceptable behavior and what is not. Beetle has a very high prey drive so no cats or small dogs. Outside he will chase deer and squirrels. No children under 12 years of age.
His new home will need to provide him with Memory foam beds and crate pads. These help keep him very comfortable with his arthritis. His weight gain is slow and steady but he really enjoys eating 3 times a day and getting treats.
If you can handle a spunky senior Beetle may be the one for you.
All of our rescues are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots and micro chipped before being placed. Completed application, vet reference and a home check required. We do NOT ship or fly rescues as it’s too stressful on them. For additional information please email us info@ddbrescue.org
Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue is a foster based, all volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit charity dedicated to rescuing neglected and abandoned Dogue de Bordeaux, rehabilitating and re-homing them into loving forever homes in the continental United States.
